Offaly councillor labels road 'a disgrace' despite recent works
Portarlington based Fianna Fail councillor, Eddie Fitzpatrick, has labelled the R420 through Gracefield "a disgrace" despite temporary road works being carried out last year.
Cllr Fitzpatrick was reacting to complaints by residents and motorists regarding the poor condition of the R420 route.
He says the idea of the temporary resurfacing at the time was "to provide a grip on a very smooth surface," but says, "unfortunately this resurface work was not successful and the chipping from the surface has become loose and the heavy
volumes of traffic using this route continues to remove the chips onto the footpath."
Cllr Fitzpatrick says the area engineer is "very much aware of this issue and will continue to provide a mobile sweeper to remove the loose chips from the road and footpaths until such time as a new surface is put in place."
He claims this will be part of the Offaly County Council roads programme for 2019.
"I will continue to make representations on behalf of the residents and motorists to ensure this issue is resolved," Cllr Fitzpatrick concluded.
