Civil Defence crews 'stood down' in Offaly due to Storm Emma

Snow continues to fall across the country

Civil Defence crews in counties Kildare, Laois, Leitrim, Longford and Offaly are standing down for the duration of Storm Emma.

The crews are acting on a national directive issued by the National Emergency Co-Ordination Group.

The news comes on foot of a decision from Offaly County Council to cease all gritting and ploughing services from 1pm on Thursday until the current Status Red warning is lifted at 3pm on Saturday.

Civil Defence services will also resume duties when safe to do so. People are urged not to go outdoors or travel on the roads unless in an emergecny situation.
