A man appeared in court accused of breaching a safety order twice in two days in Laois.

The man (48), who has a Laois address and cannot be named due to the nature of the proceedings, is accused of breaching a safety order at his address on August 20 and again on August 21, 2025.

A garda told a sitting of Portlaoise District Court that the defendant replied “I am innocent” when cautioned in relation to the allegation.

Solicitor Josephine Fitzpatrick said her client was in receipt of social welfare as she requested legal aid.

Judge Cronin granted legal aid and granted the man bail on condition that he remain of sober habits, not commit any offences and that he have no contact directly or indirectly with the alleged injured party.

Judge Cronin ordered disclosure  in the case and adjourned the matter back to Portlaoise District Court on September 18.
