Alex Dunne qualified in seventh place in F2 qualifying at the Red Bull Ring in Austria at end of an incredibly busy day and landmark day for the Offaly driver.

It started on Friday morning for the F2 World Championship leader when he was fastest in F2 Free Practice in his Roddin Motorsport car.

The McLaren Development Driver then swapped his F2 car for the F1 car of Lando Norris as he took to the track in F1 Free Practice in Speilberg where he put in a stellar performance to finish fourth fastest, less than a tenth of a second behind F1 World Championship leader Oscar Piastri who was also driving a McLaren. It was the first time in 22 years an Irish driver took to the track in F1.

It was then back to the day job in F2 and qualifying where Alex initially struggled after a very busy day.

However when it mattered most, on his last lap in qualifying, he registered his best lap to qualify in seventh place for the weekend.

That will mean in the F2 reverse grid format, he will start in fourth for the Sprint Race on Saturday and in seventh for the Feature Race on Sunday.

The Sprint Race will be shown live on Sky F1 at 1.10pm on Saturday with coverage of the Feature Race to start at 8.55am on Sunday.
