'Lando will be sweating' - F1 fans reacts to Alex Dunne's stunning F1 debut in Free Practice
Offaly driver Alex Dunne made the F1 world sit up and take notice on Friday when he took to the track for the first time in Free Practice 1 in Austria.
Driving Lando Norris' car, the current F2 World Championship leader put in a stunning drive to finish fourth less than a tenth of a second behind current F1 World Championship leader Oscar Piastri in the same car. he did so after driving in F2 Practice with an F2 qualifying session still to come on Friday afternoon.
The drive drew strong praise from the Sky Sports commentary team and also from F1 fans on X
One wrote, "Unbelievable from Alex Dunne that. Lando will be sweating over next few months "
The official Formula 1 accounted wrote - "A day to remember for F2 racer Alex Dunne "
One post encapsulated the pride of the country - "I will never, ever forget the first day I watched an Irish driver in Formula 1. And he absolutely nailed it. Well done to Alex Dunne, it’s been a long time coming ☘️"
With another adding - "feeling very patriotic after the P4 for Alex Dunne "

Another noted the long spell without an Irish driver in F1 - "21 years & 263 days since an Irish driver was on track in F1. ALEX FECKING DUNNE LADIES & GENTLEMEN!!! ☘️"
