Prosecution came before Tullamore District Court

TULLAMORE District Court heard that a man who was stopped in Edenderry last year handed a garda a genuine Irish provisional licence and a Spanish one which turned out to be false.

Wellevys Breno Alcantara De Souza (24), The Sycamores, Edenderry, pleaded guilty to using a false instrument at JKL Street in Edenderry on May 2 last.

Garda Damien Fleming said Mr De Souza had previously been convicted of driving without insurance, an offence which was committed on the same date. He now had a full Irish licence.

Patrick Martin, solicitor for the accused, said his client was a man in full-time employment who had been in Ireland since 2022. He needed a driving licence to drive to work.

Judge Andrew Cody imposed a fine of €300 and ordered the destruction of the false Spanish driving licence.
