ALERT: Horrendous weather on the way as Met Eireann issues Weather Warning for parts of Ireland
Met Eireann has issued a weather warning with some horrendous weather on the way for Ireland through Sunday and into Monday.
Met Eireann has issued as Status Yellow Rain Warning for Clare, Donegal, Galway, Leitrim, Mayo and Sligo. Met Eireann is warning that there will be heavy rain coupled with strong and gusty southerly winds, especially in exposed areas.
Potential impacts include localised flooding, damage to temporary structures, difficult travelling conditions and poor visibility. The warning is in place from 1pm on Sunday until 1pm on Monday.
According to the Met Eireann weather forecast for Sunday, more persistent rain will develop in the west during the late morning, extending into Ulster and parts of north Leinster during the afternoon. The rain will be heavy at times in the west and north with localised flooding and thundery bursts possible. Mainly dry elsewhere apart from little patchy drizzle. Highest temperatures of 17 to 20 degrees with fresh and gusty southerly winds developing, strong or very strong near coasts.
Further outbreaks of rain overnight, heaviest and most persistent in the west and northwest with a continued possibility of localised flooding and thundery bursts. Driest generally in the south and east with just a little patchy drizzle. Mild and humid with temperatures not falling below 13 to 17 degrees with fresh and gusty southerly winds, stronger near coasts.
Monday will be dry in many areas to start, however, a band of rain lying mainly over Atlantic coastal counties will continue to produce some heavy or thundery falls with the localised flooding likely. Through the morning and afternoon, the rain will track eastwards, largely clearing into the Irish Sea by the evening. Good sunny spells and isolated showers will follow from the west. Breezy at first with moderate to fresh and gusty southerly winds, easing mostly light westerly as the rain clears, fresher through near Atlantic coasts. Highest temperatures of 18 to 22 degrees.
