The search for missing 79-year-old man, Peter Oliver Bohan, has been stood down following the discovery of a body.

Gardaí found the body of a man in Co Longford late Thursday evening and have suspended the search for the missing local man.

Mr Bohan was last seen shortly before 1pm on Sunday, May 12 at his home in Cloonellan, Drumlish, Co Longford.

Extensive searches, led by gardaí, the Civil Defence and hundreds of volunteers, alongside the garda air support unit and sniffers, were conducted around the Drumlish area since Mr Bohan went missing.

However, the search for Mr Bohan has since been stood down.

An Garda Síochána Longford, in a post on their Facebook page, expressed thanks to all who came out to search, locals, Civil Defence and all who helped in any way. Condolences to the Bohan family at this sad time. May Peter rest in peace.
