An architectural visualisation of apartment blocks proposed for Tullamore
OFFALY County Council has granted planning approval to John Flanagan Developments Ltd, for a large scale housing scheme in Tullamore.
The local company is planning to construct 148 dwellings consisting of 90 houses, 20 apartments and 38 age friendly assisted living units. The development will also include a crèche and all ancillary works, including public and private open space areas, car parking, bicycle parking and bin and bicycle stores at the Wellwood Housing site at Tyrell's Road, Ardan/Puttaghan, Tullamore.
Prior to construction all of the existing buildings on the site will be demolished.
The houses will be made up of one and two storey dwellings with a mix of two, three and four bedrooms. The apartments will be over two blocks with one and two bedroom units and 38 age friendly assisted living units. There will be associated communal and administrative facilities.
The local authority has attached 26 conditions to the permission granted.
A number of submissions were made on the proposal by members of the public. Some were concerned that the apartments were overlooking their properties. Others were worried that there would be a substantial increase in traffic.
