Garda probe after car is torched in alleged arson attack in housing estate in the Midlands

An investigation is underway after a car was deliberately set alight in housing estate in the Midlands over the weekend.

The incident happened during the early hours of Saturday morning in the Farneyhoogan area of Longford town.

It's understood the episode is not linked to an ongoing investigation into an apparent arson attack at a garage in Longford town nine days previously.

A garda spokesperson confirmed that while an investigation is now underway, no arrests have yet been made.

"Gardaí are investigating an incident of criminal damage by fire to a car that occurred on the 24th June 2023 in the Farneyhoogan area of Longford at 3.50am," said a spokesperson.

No injuries have been reported.
