Kieran Curtin of HWBC who are handling the sale said there have been some expressions of interest. ''Tullamore is a good town,'' he said.

The Bridge Shopping Centre was built by a company headed up by local businessman Christy Maye in 1995 and was opened the same year by the late Gay Byrne. The centre is anchored by Dunnes Stores and has a total of 24 tenants, a cinema and 350 car parking spaces. It also has a restaurant on the second level.

HWBC describe the centre as ''a successful regional shopping centre comprising over 68,000 sq. ft. of retail space including a 46,000 sq. ft. Dunnes Stores.''

The description continues: ''It has an excellent and broad user mix including fashion, footwear, pharmacy, jewellers, sportswear, household and hair salon. There is also good multiple representation including An Post, EBS,Vero Moda and Holland & Barrett.''

HWBC say ''Bridge Street is one of the main shopping streets in Tullamore. It is a busy mixed-use street incorporating primarily retail, restaurants, public houses, leisure and office use. The Bridge Centre is located at the northern end of Bridge Street, opposite O’ Connor Square. This end of the street is regarded as the prime retail pitch in Tullamore.''
