THE circumstances of a car accident at Birr Rugby Club was outlined during last week’s sitting of Tullamore District Court.

Celina Hehir, 23 Macregal Park, Birr was charged with hit and run in Scurragh Birr on September 9, 2022.

Sgt James O’Sullivan told the court that on the date in question Ms Hehir’s car "crashed into the railings of the Rugby Club in Scurragh."

The defending solicitor Donal Farrelly told the court that his client met a car coming towards her “and swerved to avoid it  and went into the railings. She is 37 years of age and has four children including autistic twins.”

Sgt O’Sullivan said Ms Hehir  had 12 previous convictions including assaults and a conviction for no insurance.

“Her last road traffic offence goes back seven years,” remarked the solicitor. “She has a clean licence and she's starting a course next week. She says that since this incident another car has crashed into the same place.”

Judge Andrew Cody convicted for hit and run (failing to report occurrence), for which he  fined €100 and disqualified from holding a driving licence for one year.

For the offence of failing to produce a driving licence he convicted and fined €100. He took into consideration the summons hit and run (fail to remain).
