A WOMAN with 85 previous convictions came before last week's district court on an assault summons.

Sgt James O'Sullivan said that on July 15, 2021 at 2.20 am, Claire Fee (36), Cloncollig, Tullamore, was being escorted to a cell. She jumped up and began shouting at the garda. She lashed out and scratched her arm. Another garda came to assist and she scraped her arm too.

Ms Fee had previously been convicted of assault causing harm and spent four months in prison. Her last conviction was in 2020 for threatening and abusive behaviour.

Solicitor Donal Farrelly said Ms Fee had a very serious mental health condition. She had a difficult background. He said she was off medication and had a drink problem. She hasn't come to the attention of the gardai in a while.

Judge Andrew Cody imposed a three month sentence suspended for three years on her own bond of €100.
