PLAYER RATINGS: How the Offaly footballers rated in their tough loss to Meath

OFFALY endured a very tough 1-25 to 0-21 loss to Meath in the Leinster Senior Football Championship on Sunday. Ahead by 0-15 to 0-5 after an excellent second half, Meath took full advantage of a strong wind in the second half to eventually get away for the win. Offaly were a lot closer than the final scoreline indicates and there were several pivotal moments in the second half that could have turned it back in their favour but the concession of seven two pointers eventually broke them - it represented a 17 point turn around in the second half as Offaly conceded 1-20 and all their six points came from placed balls. It was a brave performance by Offaly who have had a terrific year to date and while the defeat was disappointing, they still have an opportunity to collect more silverware in the Tailteann Cup. Offaly made a shocking attempt at the second tier competition and the onus is on everyone involved to circle the wagons and make a genuine attempt at winning it – the minimum requirement is to get out of the group. The following is my players ratings from Sunday.
