Vex Robotics a big hit with young and old at Ploughing
Over 3,00 Offaly students taking part in Offaly County Council driven programme
OFFALY is one of the leading counties in VEX Robotics with teams from schools in the county having competed at international competitions across the globe.
And now the Head of IT with Offaly County Council, Ray Bell has brought the VEX Robotics message to the National Ploughing Championships in Screggan.
Fans of all ages are trying out their robotics skills in the Offaly Off We Go Pavilion located near the NPA headquarters at the Ploughing.
Among those displaying their skills were Zoe O'Sullivan and Tara Sadlier from Tipperary town who are pictured here with Ray.
"The VEX Robotics programme is centred around the future of work for young people and stresses the importance of the STEM subjects – science, technology, engineering and maths," explained Ray.
The programme has been rolled out in all schools in Offaly since 2018 and about 3,000 pupils are taking part in it.
"We have more girls involved now than boys which is bucking the trend," outlined Ray.
He predicted AI will transform the world of work in the future.
