Today is Day One of the annual Ploughing Championships in Offaly
Day one of the annual National Ploughing Championships is well underway in Screggan, Co. Offaly.
An estimated 250,000 people are expected to attend the event over the three days that it takes place.
It’s one of Ireland’s biggest events of the year, with colourful stands, familiar faces, and lots of fun and games set to take place.
Some of the country’s biggest brands have stalls in what is effectively a mini city, while President Catherine Connolly is on hand to launch the event for the first time, just days after welcoming US President Donald Trump to Áras an Uachtaráin.
Met Éireann says the week could be largely dry, stating in their latest forecast: “Current indications show showers and sunny spells on Tuesday with a drier day on Wednesday.”
