Gardaí have confirmed no further action is being taken after a huge fight involving a large group of people on the main street in Edenderry last weekend.
The incident occurred on JKL Street in the town in the early hours of Sunday morning as crowds left a licensed premises.
At least 20 people appeared to be involved in the brawl, according to videos, seen by the Offaly Express, which are circulating widely in the community. In one clip, a man can be seen lying on the ground as a number of other young men punch and kick in his direction. The man on the ground is then pulled up and away from the scene.
In a separate clip, at least six men can be seen in the middle of the road at O'Connell Square throwing punches and kicks at one another as others watch on. The fight then spilled down the street towards the library where further altercations took place.
Gardaí have told the Offaly Express that they were "in attendance at a large public gathering on JKL Street in Edenderry, Co Offaly in the early hours of Sunday, February 18, 2024" but told us that "no offences were disclosed to Gardaí" at the time.
It's understand the skirmishes may have stemmed from exchanges between groups of young men inside a licensed premises in the town before the scenes outside got out of hand and turned violent.
No injuries were reported following the incidents and no arrests were made at the time or have been made since.
