Three-year ban imposed for Tullamore offence but 21-year-old will keep licence until December

A DRINK-driver was swerving all over an Offaly road, Judge Andrew Cody was told at Tullamore District Court.

Sergeant Brendan Kearns said that John Ward (21), 5 Kilcruttin, Tullamore also had slurred speech and failed a breath test.

Mr Ward pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol in his urine on the N80 at Tullamore on February 28 last year.

A charge of having possession of a knife or a sharply pointed blade was withdrawn by the prosecution.

Sergeant Kearns said the concentration of alcohol was 204 milligrammes per 100 millilitres of urine.

The guilty plea was entered by Mr Ward's solicitor, Aisling Maloney and she requested a postponement of the automatic disqualification for three months.

Along with a three-year driving ban which will begin on December 1 next, Judge Cody fined Mr Ward €100.
