Guard tells Tullamore District Court he saw man on board 'numerous times' on same night in Edenderry with 'no lamp at all'

A MAN previously fined for illegally fitting a seat to an electric scooter was disqualified from driving when he was convicted of using the same type of vehicle without a light at night.

Garda Eoin O'Flaherty told Tullamore District Court that on December 20, 2025 on the R402 in Edenderry, Milosz Flis, 6F Clonmullen Hall, Edenderry was using an e-scooter which had no front or rear lamps.

Garda O'Flaherty said he stopped the accused at JKL Street as he was entering his property having observed him “numerous times” throughout the night on board the scooter.

The scooter was seized as he was going into the premises and though fixed charge notices were issued, they were unpaid.

“There was no lamp on it at all,” Garda O'Flaherty told Judge Andrew Cody.

The garda said Mr Flis had nine previous convictions and while nine of them were for theft, there was another for using a scooter with a fitted seat and another for driving a personal powered transporter along a footway.

Both those latter offences were committed at the same time on January 30 last year and a fine of €300 had been imposed after a prosecution by Garda Patrick McGee.

According to the law, e-scooters are designed for standing use by one person and must not have a seat attached.

Judge Cody fined Mr Flis €500 for the offence on December 20 last and imposed a three-month disqualification from holding a driving licence. The man has six months to pay the fine.
