GALLERY: Colaiste Choilm present students with awards at annual function

A number of students picked up multiple awards

The annual Kearney Awards Ceremony was held in Coláiste Choilm on Saturday, December 16. These awards acknowledge the outstanding successes achieved by Colaiste Choilm students in the Leaving and Junior Certificate State Examinations.

The night began with the celebration of Mass by school chaplain, Fr. Shane Crombie. This was followed by a meal and the
presentation ceremony. In attendance were parents and families of the award winners along with some of their former primary school principals and special guests including Murt Daveron, a former teacher.

The Leaving Certificate Gold Medal was presented to Cathal Curran by Mr. Seamus McConnell, Chairperson of the Coláiste Choilm Parents Association. Cathal is studying Primary Teaching and Psychology in Mary Immaculate College. Cathal also won the ‘Conradh na Gaeilgeʼ Award which was presented by Seán Breathnach, a former teacher of Gaeilge in the school.

On presenting the award Seán encouraged all present to engage with our national language more frequently.

The Leaving Certificate Silver Medal was won by Ciarán Ó hAoláin. Ciarán is studying Computational Thinking and Philosophy in NUI Maynooth. Ciarán won two further awards; the ‘Pat Cartyʼ Award for excellence in English which was
presented by Mr. Michael Byrne, Chairman of the Board of Management and the ‘Anne Ryanʼ Award for Science presented by Aisling Ryan representing the Ryan family. These awards are in memory of Pat Carty and Anne Ryan, former teachers in Coláiste Choilm.

The ‘Frank Wyntersʼ Award was presented to Adam McMonagle by Deirdre and Bernie Wynters for his success in the Leaving Certificate Construction Studies examination. This award is in memory of Francis Wynters who died tragically in a road traffic accident. Adam is studying Engineering in NUI Galway.

The Junior Certificate Kearney Gold Medal was won by Conor Brennan and the Junior Certificate Kearney Silver Medal was jointly won by Waseq Khondkar & David Caulfield.
