Offaly's 1994 All-Ireland winners to host 'day of celebration' 25 years on

Offaly's class of 94' are getting set to host a day of celebration and nostalgia 25 years on from the famous 'five-minute' All-Ireland.

On that 'faithful' day in September 1994, Offaly hurlers won one of the most famous All Ireland finals when they came back
from the dead to beat Limerick.

A quarter of a century later, they are getting the band back together for a day of celebration and nostalgia. To mark the milestone of Offaly's third All Ireland Senior hurling title, the 1994 winning team are holding a celebratory lunch on Friday May 10 in the Tullamore Court Hotel.

The aim of the day is to celebrate that great achievement and give the people of Offaly a great day out where they can meet and mingle with the heroes of yesteryear.

There will be a drinks reception on arrival, followed by a five-course meal while the master of ceremonies Marty Morrissey will then host a trip down memory lane with some of the men who contributed to that famous win.

Along with the 1994 team and mentors, the likes of Christy Heffernan, Joe Cooney, Dave Clarke, TJ Ryan and Martin Storey are also confirmed to be in attendance.

It has all the making of a great day out for supporters with plenty of entertainment on the day.

Martin Hanamy was the captain in 1994 and he is delighted that the event has got off the ground and is looking forward to reliving that magic year.

“The players can't wait for it. A lot of work has been done by the committee. We were very keen to mark the 25-year anniversary of the All Ireland win in a way that would include the Offaly public."

“The support we got during our time hurling was immense and we hope we can give people a great day out on May 10," Martin said.

The organising committee has been working extremely hard in recent weeks to get this off the ground and they are delighted that Carroll's and the Tullamore Court Hotel have come on board as main sponsors.

Speaking about the event, Patricia Blair of Carroll's commented: “Carroll’s are delighted to be the main sponsor along with The Tullamore Court Hotel. We feel it is important to mark this historic occasion in Offaly GAA history and look forward to attending the event in May."

“As the longest running jersey sponsors in GAA, we were emblazoned across the jersey of the winning team in 1994, and we are proud to still be on the jersey 25 years later."

"This is also an important year for Carroll’s as we are celebrating 40 years in business, so we recognise the importance of celebrating these significant milestones, and hope for more to come for both Offaly GAA and ourselves in Carroll’s.”

The event will take place in the Tullamore Court Hotel and general manager Philip O'Brien is proud to have the hotel associated with the event.

“It is hard to believe that it is 25 years since that All Ireland win. The Flanagan family and the Tullamore Court Hotel are proud to be hosting and sponsoring the day and it promises to be one of the sporting events of the year in this county.”

2019 will be a big year for the 1994 All Ireland champions. They will be introduced at half time of the All Ireland Senior hurling final later on in the year and they have also planned a holiday to Portugal in September.

The event on Friday, May 10 will kick off at 2pm with music and entertainment throughout the day and night.
