Brendan Lowry on duty as GAA selector while Shane blitzes Irish Open

While Shane Lowry was blitzing the field in the Amgen Irish Open 2026, his father was on duty as a selector for Clara against Shamrocks.
And not only did he miss the final day of the tournament, which Shane was winning comfortably, Clara also lost out to Shamrocks on a score of 1-19 to 1-12.
The former Offaly and Ferbane legend is currently a selector with the Clara senior football team who faced Shamrocks in the Offaly senior championship quarter final on Sunday afternoon.
The Clara outfit had to play second fiddle to Shamrocks and Paddy Dunican in particular, who shot over a whopping 1-12 in the victory.
Clara had raced into a 0-6 - 0-0 lead early in the game but Shamrocks took over after that in O’Connor Park.
While his beloved Clara was exiting the championship, Shane was focused on his own job, shooting 4 under over the first ten holes to open a commanding 8 shot lead over his nearest challenger, Patrick Reed at the Doonbeg golf course.
Barring a disastrous final few holes, the Clara man is set to succeed Rory McIlroy as the Irish Open champion.
US President Donal Trump was present before the start of the final round at Doonbeg, shaking the Offaly man’s hand ahead of his drive off the first tee on Sunday afternoon.
