Making the best of the summer sun with Age Friendly Roscrea

It was sun, smiles and lots of songs at the very entertaining July ‘Rambling House’ event in Roscrea, hosted by the local Age Friendly group in their headquarters in the former Courthouse on Gaol Road.

The July Rambling House was another evening of great music, songs, and stories – with a group of visitors from Moycarkey/Borris singing beautiful songs.

At the tea break, it is heartwarming to see people reconnecting with old friends, sharing stories and enjoying the chat.

Another visitor from Dublin, Fiona Bolger and her colleague, Sandra joined the proceedings on the night to promote a project starting in September called ‘Tipp of our Tongues’.

The interesting project is funded by the ETB and Fiona is looking for people to participate in a fun literary project where people are writing poetry or stories and exploring culture, language and expression.

All languages are welcome and will add greatly to the event. If you are interested in taking part contact [email protected] for more information.

Fiona also read one of her own poems on the evening and another by Pat Bracken that he had written at the taster session in Roscrea Library earlier that day.

The next Rambling House is going to be on Tuesday, the 18th of August, hosted by Roscrea Heritage Society as part of Heritage Week. Please note the change of date.

“While most of our groups are on a short break for a few weeks, we are still here in the building. You are welcome to our ‘Drop-in Thursdays’ – call in with a friend or two for a chat, game of cards, craft or just a cup of tea,” Age Friendly Roscrea said.

"You might be missing meeting up for our regular groups that have taken a short break over the summer. So, we welcome older members of our community to drop in to our centre to meet up with friends for a chat, a game of cards, knitting, crochet, reading or a sit down after a walk. Keep in touch,” they said.

"Please check in on older family members, friends or neighbours to see if they are coping with the warm weather. They may need some errands or shopping done if they are not up to going out in the intense heat.

“Or maybe just call in for a chat or an ice-cream. Your company is always appreciated,” they also reminded everyone.
