THREE lorries from Tullamore are due to set out with vital supplies for Ukraine the Monday after St Patrick's weekend.

The organisers are hoping to fill the vehicles with food and other humanitarian necessities for the beleaguered people of war torn Ukraine.

Condron Concrete, Jennings and Ravenhill have all volunteered trucks and drivers to travel to the Polish/Ukrainian border and the supplies will then be transported to Ukraine. There will be two people in each lorry.

John Condron of Condron Concrete said the trucks will be parked at the Tullamore rugby club next weekend and he is appealing to people to make donations.

He said items such as baby wipes, water, canned foods, sleeping bags, bandages, pasta rice, porridge, blankets and any other items which people think are needed.

''I think people will know from looking at the television what is needed, '' said John.

People have been very generous so far. One truck went from Kilbeggan last week and John and his wife Nora organised  supplies with the help of Dolan's Pharmacy in Tullamore who gave them medical items at cost price.

Those wishing to make a contribution are invited to bring their goods to the rugby club in Tullamore on next Friday, Saturday and Sunday next March 11, 12, 13  from 10am to 4pm.
