Building work taking place in Birr
CONSTRUCTION work is scheduled to begin today (Friday, September 5) on eight more residential units in a Birr housing scheme.
When complete Cappaneale Place, which is off the Banagher Road, will comprise 40 units including four semi-detached two-bed bungalows, two mid-terrace one-bed bungalows, 20 three-bed semi-detached houses, six three-bed mid-terrace houses and eight one-bed apartments.
Access to the development is along Forest View and a residents' association from that road opposed the scheme and lodged an appeal with An Bord Pleanala after Offaly County Council granted permission.

An Bord Pleanala concurred with the council planners and construction of the first phase of 25 units began in April last year.
Residents had concerns about traffic volumes on what was effectively a cul-de-sac before developers Fitzpatrick & Heavey Homes Ltd got the go-ahead for the new scheme.
There was also concern from the nearby St Brendan's Community School when the planning application was being considered by the County Council.
