The countdown is officially on for this years SuperValu Tidy Towns Awards and Tullamore Tidy Towns needs your help.

This week the team of volunteers was out sweeping, cleaning, painting, washing, litter picking and more.

Said Cllr Shane Murray, Tidy Towns chairman: "Please play you part in Tullamore taking the top prize - We can't do it without your help - How you may ask? Simply get involved with your neighbours in your local estates, street or road residents associations, or look after your own patch outside your house.

"Already got that sorted then come along to our work nights every Wednesday at 7pm, meeting up in Kilbride Plaza and Sunday morning at 8.30am in William Street ."

He added that people will also see Tidy Towns volunteers out most days in hiviz, possibly litter picking sweeping or painting.

"We can supply litter pickers, bags and gloves. If you are a business it is important to support us by sweeping and cleaning outside your premises - go that little bit further and hand some lower baskets with pollinators friendly flowers for the bees.

"If you're a pub or restaurant pay attention to cigarette butts on the ground outside. These simple tasks will greatly contribute to Tullamore achieving Gold and ultimately the top spot in the country."
