The total figure raised is the culmination of a hugely fruitful fundraiser held on Sunday, 4 August. The day kicked off with a High Nelly cycle before an exciting auction saw the Square in Clonaslee filled with eager bidders.

A cake sale filled with delicious treats and an evening of live entertainment completed a memorable day.

Clonaslee High Nelly Club committee said: "We were blown away by the generosity of so many at every single level of this fundraiser. The final sum of €35,400 exceeded our wildest expectations. It truly embodies the community spirit of Clonaslee.

"From those who cycled on the day, baked for our cake sale, participated in the auction, privately donated, volunteered in any capacity, or if you simply cheered us on, thank you! In the club's five year existence, this is our most successful fundraiser to date. We couldn't have done it without you!"
