SPEEDING on the Dublin-Galway motorway in a performance vehicle cost a driver from Co Armagh €1,000.
Jim Wright, a 53-year-old with an address at Richmond Manor, Armagh, Northern Ireland, was detected driving at 151kph on the M6 at Ardan, Kilbeggan – 31kph above the speed limit for that road.
Garda Martin Linnane told Tullamore District Court that the offence had occurred at 6.10pm on November 26 last year.
A fixed charge penalty notice had been issued but it was not paid and a summons was then issued.
Mr Wright was not present in court when the Moate-based garda gave evidence before Judge Andrew Cody.
Garda Linnane told Judge Cody the vehicle being driven by Mr Wright was a Lamborghini jeep.
Judge Cody referred to the number plate of the vehicle, JIW1, and remarked: “With a private plate like that, they don't come cheap.”
Convicting Mr Wright of exceeding the 120kph motorway speed limit, he imposed a fine of €1,000.
