Young man for trial on charge of arson at former Offaly supermarket

Former supermarket building in Tullamore was damaged by fire in October last year

A YOUNG man has been sent for trial at the next sitting of Tullamore Circuit Court accused of arson at the Quinnsworth building in Tullamore town centre.

In addition to entering Quinnsworth as a trespasser on October 4 last year, Jack Conroy (20), Arden View, Tullamore faces a charge of damaging by fire, a commercial building, various contents such as couches and other furnishings.

A book of evidence was served on Mr Conroy at last week's sitting of Tullamore Circuit Court and an application was made that he be sent for trial at the next Circuit Court sitting on December 5, 2023.

Judge Andrew Cody made that order and following an application from Mr Conroy's solicitor, Aisling Maloney, he granted legal aid.

Ms Maloney told the court her client earned €220 per week.

The court also heard Mr Conroy is on bail.
