A ONE-month suspended sentence was imposed on a man who admitted having cannabis for sale in Tullamore.

Danils Sicovs (44), Market Square, Tullamore, admitted possession of €1,800 worth of the drug at a flat in Church Street, Tullamore on October 1 last year.

Sergeant James O'Sullivan told the local District Court that the drugs were found during a search and Mr Sicovs handed them over to the gardai.

Mr Sicovs had a total of 17 previous convictions, most of which were for road traffic offences but which included two for drugs possession.

The man's solicitor, Donal Farrelly, said his client was a Latvian father of two who worked part-time and no longer used drugs.

Judge Andrew Cody imposed the sentence after being told by Sergeant O'Sullivan the accused had not come to garda attention since the date of the offence.
