Offaly club's athlete sets great personal best Valencia 10K

Michael Murphy

Congratulations to Michael Murphy, who clocked a superb 28:54 at the Valencia 10K on Sunday, 11 January.
He joined thousands of runners in the 17th edition of this event, widely regarded as one of Europe’s fastest 10K races, attracting an elite field from over 25 different nationalities.
The race was of high class quality, with the top 35 men all breaking the 28-minute barrier with many athletes chasing qualification for the European Championships in Birmingham in August.
Among this world-class lineup were several of Ireland’s top athletes, and Michael, competing in just his second-ever 10K, finished as the 6th Irish runner home, an outstanding achievement in such a high-quality field.

Harriers Juveniles compete in Glasgow

A half dozen of from the Tullamore Harriers juvenile squad travelled to Glasgow at the weekend to compete in the Scottish National Open. The event took place at the very impressive Emirates Arena, which was redeveloped in recent years to host the 2024 World Indoor Championships.

Close to 800 athletes were on start-lists for the Sunday competition – 787 to be totally precise, and the Tullamore’s athletes priced themselves well able to compete. Three juveniles participated in the 800m races. All three are newcomers to the event so in effect each ran a PB.
