Daniele Collinge snatches late equaliser for Barnet against Colchester

Danny Collinge’s late equaliser salvaged a valuable point for Barnet in a spirited 1-1 draw at home to Colchester.

Jack Turner gave Colchester an early lead after a clever free-kick routine involving Teddy Bishop and Jack Payne.

Arthur Read’s effort was blocked but the loose ball fell to Tucker, who drilled it into the bottom corner.

The Bees equalised in stoppage time following a dangerous counter-attack. Idris Kanu’s low cross found Collinge, who beat the last defender to drill the ball home and share the spoils.

The U’s almost made a dream start when Samson Tovide threaded a brilliant pass to Read, who beat the last defender but saw his low shot was superbly saved by Barnet goalkeeper Cieran Slicker.

The visitors took the lead in the eighth minute through Tucker, who poked home to stun the hosts.

Payne nearly doubled the lead with a long-range effort, but Slicker recovered to save. Barnet responded as Ryan Glover headed narrowly wide from an Anthony Hartigan corner.

The hosts started the second half strongly and came close when Glover’s curling shot was superbly blocked by Tucker.

Ollie Kensdale had a powerful header straight at Colchester goalkeeper Matt Macey before Collinge equalised late on, with both sides sharing the spoils.
