Gallen United U-19 CCFL Cup champions for 2023.
GALLEN United U-19s recently completed their season by winning the CCFL U-19 Cup by defeating St Francis of Athlone 2-1 in the final at Ballinahown Sports Park.
It was the second Cup in a week for this dedicated bunch of lads, who beat the same opposition 5-0 in the CCFL U-19 Shield Final a week earlier. This completed a remarkably few weeks for Gallen Utd after securing a senior league title a few weeks ago and U-10s winning their MSL competition also.
The U-19s were solid throughout the season and really hit form when it mattered, playing 21 games in all competitions, winning 17 of those matches and drawing one and losing three. Gallen U19’s scored a total of 61 goals in all competition, conceding a mere 20 goals over the season with Fergal Bracken in goal and the defence solid all season. Luke Kelly was leading goal scorer for the season with 20 goals scored, including a hat trick in the shield final on May 13th and one crucial second goal in the Cup win.
Eight of this team’s starting 11 on Saturday are only 17 playing U-19 and will be eligible again for next season. Thanks to CCFL & MSL for running our leagues and cups year on year.
