Darren Mooney completes his 100th parkrun

Meet Darren Mooney who recently completed his 100th parkrun at Mountlucas parkrun.

When did you first complete a parkrun?

Since completing my first parkrun on the 6th of January 2018, I’ve been hooked. What started as a simple way to get some exercise quickly became a cherished Saturday morning ritual.

What is your favourite thing about parkrun?

There’s something incredibly motivating about starting the weekend surrounded by like-minded people, all sharing the same goal of getting active and enjoying the outdoors. The community spirit is infectious, and it’s one of the main reasons I keep coming back.

How does it feel to have completed 100 parkruns?

Reaching my 100th parkrun was a milestone that genuinely crept up on me—a true sign of how much I enjoy it. It never felt like a chore; instead, it became something I looked forward to each week.

What is your favourite parkrun memory?

Among all those runs, a few memories stand out—particularly the day I won the event and the special occasion of running alongside my daughter. Those moments remind me that parkrun is about more than just fitness; it’s about connection, achievement, and community.

What words would you use to describe Mountlucas parkrun?

If I had to describe Mountlucas parkrun in just a few words, I’d say it’s friendly and incredibly welcoming. Whether you're a first-timer or a seasoned runner, there’s always a smile waiting for you at the start line. It’s a place where everyone is encouraged, supported, and celebrated—no matter their pace. That’s the magic of parkrun, and I’m proud to be part of it.

Mountlucas parkrun takes place at Bord na Móna Mountlucas windfarm every Saturday morning at 9.30am sharp. There's something for everyone at Mountlucas parkrun whether you want to walk, run, volunteer or just meet new people. For more information see
