RAHEEN
Division 5 Football
Raheen Junior Footballers remain on course to secure their place in the League Semi Final as they made it 4 wins out of 4 so far in the Division 5 League with the latest win coming against St Rynaghs in Rd 4 last Tuesday week on a scoreline of 2-16 to 0-10. Raheen opened the scoring with the first point from the first attack straight from the throw in before following it up with the first goal in the 4th minute when Danny Gorman took the ball about 30m out and ran all the way into the square before blasting it to the net. St Rynaghs then got off the mark with their first point before the sides added 2 points apiece over the next 10 minutes with Cein Gorman on target for Raheen. This is how it remained until the last 5 minutes with Raheen getting another point before grabbing their second goal in the 28th minute when a quick tap and go free in midfield taken by Rory Grehan saw him pick out James Bryan in the clear in the square who fired it past the keeper to the net. The sides added a point apiece before St Rynaghs completed the first half scoring with what would prove to be the games only 2 pointer in stoppage time. This gave Raheen a healthy half-time lead of 2-05 to 0-06. In the second half Raheen had the aid of the breeze and they made good use of it adding a further 11 points to St Rynaghs 4 with highlight being a point from club veteran net minder Mark “Curly” Byrne who swapped his usual position between the posts to go into the full forward line for this game.
RAHEEN: Keith Kirwan, Finn McCormack, Brian Corcoran, Cian Flood, Shane O’Rourke (0-01), Aidan Pierce (0-01), Scott Bolton, Danny Gorman (1-02), Rory Grehan, Stephen Pierce (0-02), James Bryan (1-02), Ryan Mulpeter, Mark Byrne (0-01), Cein Gorman (0-06), Colm Larkin.
SUBS: Shane Hackett (for Colm Larkin), Liam Gorman (0-01) (for James Bryan), Noel Gorman.
Division 3 Football
It’s now 2 wins and 2 defeats for Raheen Intermediate Footballers in the Div 3 League as they lost out to St Brigids in Rd 4 last Thursday evening in Croghan on a scoreline of 1-13 to 0-10. Both sides found scores tough to come by with the opening score not arriving until the 9th minute a point from play for St Brigids which they added to with a pointed free along with a 2 pointer free over the next 3 minutes. It took until the midpoint of the half for Raheen to get off the mark with a point from Conor Carroll followed immediately by another from Paddy Rigney. Then in final 10 minutes of the half St Brigids stretched ahead scoring 4 points without reply to lead at the break 0-08 to 0-02. The opening 10 minutes of the second half saw Raheen add 2 points to St Brigids 1 with one of those Raheen scores coming from a free awarded for a breach of the 4 V 3 rule. This is how it remained until the last 10 minutes with the sides adding a point apiece with St Brigids then adding another 2 either side of grabbing their goal in the 24th minute when a fist pass across the goal was punched to the net at the left post. Raheen responded with double 2 pointers in the 26th & 27th minutes one from play and the other from a free both scored by Brian Crombie. The sides wrapped it up with 1 more point apiece in the time remaining as St Brigids claimed the win on a 6 point winning margin.
RAHEEN: Keith Kirwan, David Carthy, Brian Corcoran, Aiden Pierce, Eamon Bolger, James Lalor, Adam Kelly, Jack Keogh, Shane Hyland, Paddy Arnold, Paddy Rigney (0-01), Rory Grehan, Cein Gorman, Conor Carroll (0-01), Brian Crombie (0-06 (2X 2P)).

Spring League Presentation
Unfortunately due to adverse weather conditions our spring league had to be postponed on Saturday last 14th June. We would like to welcome all the footballers to the field on Saturday 21st June to finish our Spring League 2025. We will hand out the tops to all the participants and have some fun activities organised. A huge thank you to David Keogh from Leinster Concrete Finishing, our sponsor for Spring league 2025. We are planning a fun filled afternoon with coffee, teas and treats after. All are welcome (time to be confirmed later in the week).
We invite everyone to stay on after spring league as our club pays tribute to John “Bruce” Hannon. Unbelievably it’s approaching the first anniversary of John’s passing. Our club plan to remember John and recognize the enormous contribution he made to our club, our players, our young people and our community. The club invite everyone to stay, celebrate and remember the Bruce with us. This will commence at 5.30pm. We look forward to seeing you all on the day.
Best Wishes
Wishing all the sick of the parish a very speedy recovery.
