An investigation is underway after an elderly cyclist was killed in a road crash on a busy tourist route in County Kerry.
Gardaí are appealing for witnesses following the fatal incident which happened on the R569 road at Church Grounds, Kilgarvan, this Tuesday afternoon.
"Gardaí and emergency services responded to the collision involving a vehicle and a cyclist shortly after 1.40pm. The cyclist, a male in his 80s, was pronounced deceased at the scene," said a spokesperson who added that the local coroner has been informed and a post-mortem examination will take place.
Motorists are being advised the road remains closed pending technical examination and all drivers travelling to and from Kenmare need to travel via Killarney and Moll's Gap on the N71. Gardai say this road is not suitable for heavy vehicle traffic.
