Birr man became irate with Gardaí and threw away car keys

The Gardaí were investigating a vehicle in a Birr housing estate when the man approached them.

A MAN became verbally abusive towards the Gardaí and threw away his car keys during an incident in Birr recently.
On Wednesday February 11th at 10pm in Scurragh, Birr, two Gardaí were in the process of seizing a car which had no tax and no insurance when the man, who was the owner of the car, approached them in an aggressive state. During the altercation he threw away the car's keys into the darkness. He was arrested under Section 6 of the Public Order Act (threatening behaviour).
It was subsequently discovered by the two Gardai that a bench warrant for the man's arrest had also been in place prior to the incident.
