A NEW pedestrian crossing to be constructed over the next couple of months, will improve safety at St Brendan’s Boys National School in Birr, Cllr Audrey Hennessy Kennedy said this week.
“Last October, after a meeting with the Principal of the Boys National School Mr Niall Crofton, concerns were raised regarding the safety of pupils and families crossing the road to access St Brendan’s Boys National School in Birr,” she said.
“Residents of Moorpark Street also highlighted with me, the urgent need for traffic-calming measures, particularly at the junction with Orchard Lane, where motorists frequently failed to observe the stop sign.
“Following months of engagement and meetings with the Senior Engineer, I am pleased to confirm that a new pedestrian crossing will be installed at the junction of Moorpark St. and Orchard Lane.
“This important safety measure will provide pupils, parents, and the wider community with a secure crossing point, greatly improving safety in the school area and addressing long-standing concerns of residents and school staff alike,” said Cllr Hennessy Kennedy.
