ALL are invited to a Fireside Talk with Joe Mc Hugh in Birr this coming Friday.
Joe, who is the husband of the famous Birr woman and former TD Olwyn Enright will be hosting "Caint Cois Tine" at Craughwell's Pub.
The evening is being organised by the famous poet Rita Kelly, who has been living in Birr for several years now and is celebrated for her wonderful poems and her championing of Irish.
“Join us for an evening of storytelling, lively conversation, and cultural celebration,” Rita told the Tribune, “as Joe presents his Fireside Talk session on Friday the 27th of June at 7:30 PM in Craughwell's Pub. This event is free, open to the public, and promises to be an enriching experience for all attendees.”
Rita said it will be an Evening of Storytelling and Connection.
“The evening will revolve around the themes of language, culture, and connection, inspired by the recent publication of Joe's book, 'Beidh Tú Alright'. The book chronicles Joe's personal journey through the challenges and triumphs of learning Gaeilge, delivering an uplifting message of resilience and hope to language learners. Attendees will have the unique opportunity to engage in a lively discussion with Joe, both in English and Irish, and ask questions about his experiences.”
Joe, in anticipation of the event, pointed out:
"I am delighted for the opportunity to come to Birr and join with fellow language enthusiasts. Birr has a great tradition of promoting the Irish language and all things cultural. I am looking forward to a lively evening and I'm grateful to the Craughwell family for facilitating the event and grateful also to Birr resident Rita Kelly who will be MC for the evening."
Joe says he recently embarked on a new chapter in his professional life. After dedicating 25 years as a public representative, during which he served as a Government Minister in the Department of Education and the Department of Arts, Heritage & the Gaeltacht, as well as Government Chief Whip and Minister of State for the Diaspora & Overseas Aid, Joe transitioned to a new career path in November 2024.
He has just completed a two-year master's degree in Positive Health Coaching from the Royal College of Surgeons University. Now an author, motivational speaker, and team coach, Joe continues to inspire and connect with people through his work.
Beidh Tú Alright will be on sale on the night. Beidh Tú Alright is a powerful nod to “the resilience of the human spirit, the importance of cultural heritage, and the joy of lifelong learning.”
In Beidh Tú Alright, Joe reveals the emotional and intellectual struggles faced, and the deep connections he forged with the language, its history, and the Irish-speaking communities.
He says his journey was not just about learning a language but rediscovering its cultural significance. From uncovering the meaning behind place names like Maam Cross and Gleann an Ghiolla Ghránna to finding inspiration in the landscapes of Bear Island and Gleann Cholm Cille, Beidh Tú Alright delves into how language can connect us to our heritage, our sense of place, and our own identity.
Come and be part of a memorable evening celebrating language, culture, and community. Don't miss this chance to hear Joe Mc Hugh’s inspiring story and engage in meaningful dialogue and a bit of craic! We look forward to welcoming you!
