Roscrea Sergeant completes 236km charity solo cycle

Sergeant Ciarán Ó Ráighne on his 236km solo cycle last weekend

On Saturday last (August 26) Sergeant Ciarán Ó'Ráighne, who is based in Roscrea Garda Station, completed an incredible one-day solo cycle spanning 236km from Indreabhán in Co. Galway to Dingle in Co. Kerry for charity.

Sergeant Ó'Ráighne gave his challenging test of endurance the 'Making Memories Cycle,' which raised much-needed funds for the Alzheimer Society of Ireland.

A Galway native, Sergeant Ciarán Ó'Ráighne chose the route through the country due to his personal connections - he hails from the small parish where the cycle begins in Indreabhán and his mother, Máire is from Ventry near the end point of his cycle in Dingle.

Sergeant Ó Ráighne had been fundraising for the ASI since the beginning of the year and his efforts have already yielded an incredible €18,408 in donations.

Starting from Indreabhán, his route took him through Salthill, Galway City, Oranmore, Gort and Ennis before continuing towards Killimer, Co. Clare. There, he took a ferry ride to Tarbert, Co. Kerry before continuing through Listowel, Tralee, Annascaul and finally reaching the finish line at O'Flaherty's pub in Dingle.

Sergeant Ó'Ráighne received great support locally in Roscrea and from his Garda colleagues and hundreds of people followed the journey in realtime on his Instagram page @themakingmemoriescycle
