Judge Nicola Andrews said she was obliged to seek a victim impact statement from the victim of an assault at last week's Tullamore District Court.
Kieran Bracken (29) of Fox Covert, Money, Kilcormac pleaded guilty to assaulting Patrick Leonard at Melba's Night Club, Birr, Offaly, on August 7, 2023.
In his evidence to the court Sergeant Richard Thornton said that on the night in question, Kieran Bracken had punched the injured party resulting in the man receiving a swollen and scraped left ear and bruising to his forehead.
The two men were not known to each other and the assault was on the lower end of the scale, barrister for Mr Bracken said.
Judge Andrews put the case back to June 5 next to allow the victim to make a statement if he wishes. She also said compensation of €1,000 should be paid.
Mr Bracken was remanded on court bail until that date.
