In a startling incident last Sunday, gardaí on patrol witnessed a car crashing into a bollard.
Following the crash, which took place in the Curragh, Co Kildare, the driver exited the vehicle momentarily before getting back inside and attempting to reverse away from the scene.
Gardaí apprehended the driver after suspicions of the driver being under the influence of alcohol. This lead to his arrest.
The driver has since been charged with driving under the influence (DUI).
A garda spokesperson has said: "He has since been charged and now faces court."
