'Don’t be afraid to ask for ID if contacted by Irish Water workers' - Browne

Sinn Fein Tipperary TD, Martin Browne has advised people to not hesitate to ask for identification if approached by a staff member of Irish Water.

“After raising my concerns with Irish Water about calls being made to houses in Upper Friar Street at night recently, I have now received correspondence from the utility company confirming that all staff and contractors are required to present their ID in order to identify who they are and who they’re representing.

“If anyone is in doubt about the identity of an individual claiming to be working for Irish Water, members of the public can ring 1800 278 278 to verify the identification of any of the utility company’s workers or contractors.

“Irish Water has also informed me that leakage works will be taking place in Cashel, and that due to the nature of the works, it may be necessary to undertake these works in the evening or at night time.

“So, if anyone has concerns, please don’t hesitate to confirm the identity of anyone who may call to your door.

“I appreciate that Irish Water has finally clarified all of this, and from now on Irish Water must ensure that there is no more room left for doubt when notifying people of works in the area in the evening or at night.”
