May McFadden with ultimate Elvis winner Ben Portsmouth.
May McFadden from Kinnitty had a memorable encounter with Ultimate Elvis Winner Ben Portsmouth at the Taking Care of Elvis show recently in University Concert Hall in Limerick.
A devoted Elvis Presley fan since the age of 14 and a frequent visitor to Graceland in Memphis, Tennessee, May found herself selected from the sold-out audience by Ben Portsmouth. In a lighthearted exchange, Ben asked May a series of questions, to which she responded with humour amusing the audience greatly. As the crowd watched, Ben serenaded May with the classic tune "Can't Help Falling in Love" before promising to perform "Blue Moon of Kentucky" for her later in the show.
Reflecting on the experience, May expressed her disbelief at being chosen from the audience, likening Ben as a fun gentleman, who could be a twin of the King of Rock and Roll. Throughout their interaction, Ben inquired about May's favourite Elvis songs, to which she mentioned "Don't Be Cruel," "Wooden Heart," and "Blue Moon of Kentucky." Ben graciously pledged and sang the latter song later in the show.
