Sinn Fein candidate in the upcoming local elections in Tullamore LEA, Aoife Masterson, is calling on Offaly County Council’s planning department not to give any further permission for international protection accommodation in Tullamore or Clara.

Speaking this week, Ms Masterson said: “It has been brought to my attention by members of the public that there appears to be further extension of international protection accommodation services on High Street and O’Moore Street in Tullamore.

“This comes at a time when people are struggling to access housing, GP services, school places, dental appointments, and many other basic services and supports.

“These are serious issues for people across the town and country, and it needs to be addressed urgently at both local and national level.

Ms Masterson continued: “We all know there are huge profits to be made by a small number of people providing international protection accommodation, but Tullamore and Clara have played their part in providing this accommodation.

“We now need to do what’s best for the area and focus on providing an increase in services for all the people of Tullamore.

“I am again calling on Offaly County Council to stop allowing the expansion of international protection accommodation in Tullamore and Clara.

“Let’s make what we have work and fight for the services people need.”
