FOUR local girls, who are finalists in the Certified Irish Angus Schools Competition, have raised substantial funds for Dóchas, the Offaly Cancer Support Group.

The four - Chloe McDermott, Sinéad Bracken, Trása Bracken and Mary Colton - have to rear five calves for 18 months as part of the competition.

The girls, in tandem with the competition, held a raffle and coffee morning in aid of Dóchas Offaly in Durrow hall on Sunday, December 18 last.

The quartet raised a total of €5,619 for Dóchas Offaly.

The girls presented the cheque to John Conroy and Ann Starling of Dóchas at Mercy Secondary School in Kilbeggan before Christmas.
