Offaly motorist gave false name and address to Gardai when stopped
An Edenderry man gave a false name and address to the Gardai when recently stopped by them, last week's sitting of Tullamore District Court was told.
Before the court was Taofeeq Ajani of 103 Boyne Meadows, Edenderry. The defending solicitor Donal Farrelly said his client was pleading guilty to the offences.
Sergeant James O'Sullivan told the court that the defendant was stopped by the Gardai at 3.40pm on November 29 last and was found “to have no insurance and no driving licence. He also failed to give a name and address. He was therefore arrested and his vehicle was seized. He has no previous convictions.”
The solicitor said Mr Ajani is a 29 year old Nigerian national who is in good employment in a local meat factory.
“His plan had been to bring his car to Lagos in Nigeria. He is trying to get a driving licence at the moment. I would ask you to please not disqualify him as he is reliant on his car for going to work.”
Mr Farrelly said Mr Ajani has been living in Ireland for 16 years.
Judge Cody fined him €300 for no insurance and €250 for giving false information.
