Man prosecuted after drunken incident at Tullamore hotel

AN intoxicated man who had been attending a function in a Tullamore hotel was unable to stand up, the local District Court was told recently.

Judge Cephas Power heard that Thomas Rossiter (56), Croneyhorn, Carnew, Co Wicklow, was also seen lying on the ground at the Bridge House Hotel on February 6 last at 12.45am.

Sergeant James O'Sullivan told the court the accused had a previous conviction for drink-driving.

A plea of guilty to public drunkenness and failing to give a name and address to a garda was entered on Mr Rossiter's behalf by defending solicitor Donal Farrelly.

Mr Farrelly said some words had been said on the night which upset his client and he was prepared to pay €300 to the court poor box.

Judge Power said he would apply the Probation Act on the payment of that amount into the court.
