In two different cases at Tullamore District Court, two drivers both of whom gave separate addresses in Tralee were fined for being in Clara during Covid restrictions.

In her evidence to the court, Garda Elaine Conlon of Portlaoise Garda Station said she stopped Patrick Murphy (49) 13, Croilan Na Mhistealach, Deans Lane, Tralee, in Ballycumber Village on April 25, 2021. He was in breach of Covid restrictions.

When she asked why he was in Ballycumber Mr Murphy replied he was going to Woodies in Clara. Garda Conlon told Judge Catherine Staines there was no Woodies in Clara.

On the same date Garda Conlon stopped John Conway (24), Knocknagore, Tralee Road, Tralee. He was also driving in Ballycumber village in breach of  regulations to stop the spread of Covid. He too told the garda he was going to Woodies in Clara.
