An Offaly motorist received a four year driving ban and a fine at last week's sitting of Tullamore District Court.
Seán Murphy Monaghan, Annagharvey Cross, Tullamore, pleaded guilty to not having insurance or a driving licence.
Mr Monaghan's car was stopped by the Gardai on High Street, Tullamore on May 14, 2025 and seized. He had previous convictions, including no insurance and driving without reasonable consideration.
Judge Andrew Cody said this was the defendant's second offence for no insurance.
“He realises that he is in difficulty today in court because of it being a second offence,” commented the defending solicitor Brian Duffy.
“His father died tragically the year before and my client's mental health fell off a cliff. He has since engaged with counselling services and is now back on track. He is 22 years of age and is hoping to eventually gain employment as a mechanic.”
The Judge convicted and fined €1,500 and disqualified from driving for a period of four years.
